Spokane Family Day [Aug5, 6 & 7]

After a busy week in Yellowstone, we headed home via Spokane.

We’re not strangers to Spokane, in-fact I go with the Munro’s about twice a year to visit Julia’s family and friends.  However, it had been a long time … okay never … since we’d gone and just hung out.  No plans.  No people to visit.  Just relaxing, fun day just for us!

What did we do?

We spent an afternoon at Riverside Park!  We walked around, had a wonderful dinner and then visited the amusement park for some fun!!

Then there was also ENDLESS hours of SWIMMING in the hotel pool!!

I also tackled a major project.  Actually it started out as a minor project, but it quickly morphed into a MAJOR project.  Julia and I are making mass amounts of crocheted beanies for our Blue Eyed Blessing’s Etsy Store; the color yarn I wanted to use had a substantial knot in it.  On the drive back from Yellowstone to Spokane I began undoing the knot.  Three days later I STILL was working on the knot!  I’m happy to say after a few days at home I FINALLY got the knots out and made an adorable beanie for our store!

After a fulfilled couple of days and week in Yellowstone we were absolutely tuckered out!  Here we all are on the last night of our vacation!!

all tuckered out

What a fun vacation we had!  Sad it’s over, but now I can look back at all the memories made and photos taken!!  Not to mention I have finished the Yellowstone segments of my blog!!  YAY!

I am starting to feel caught up, but go figure, I went on vacation again last week for a few days with the Munro’s!  So there’s still more adventures to come!!

Julia’s Birthday! Cousins!

happy bday Happy Birthday JULIA!!

In honor of Julia’s birthday, I wanted to conclude my Spokane posts with some photos of Julia’s adorable kids, nieces and nephews!  They aren’t technically my cousins, but I want to claim them all anyways!  Julia has amazing family in Spokane, that have taken me in as a surrogate family member!  It’s awesome!  Our spontaneous trip to Spokane, wouldn’t be complete without some cousin photos!

Chuck E Cheese Fun

Last week while we were i Spokane we spent a very snowy Thursday at Chuck E Cheese with some of our favorite Spokane Friends!  We had such a fun time playing games, eating greasy pizza and earning tickets…oh did I mention spending money?  (Wow, that place is expensive!)

Spokane Snow Storm!

We knew that coming to Spokane this week we’d have snow.  We came prepared with our snow gear and sleds!  Julia’s cousin Dana’s house has a great sledding hill, so we hoped there would be enough snow to do some sledding!

We arrived into town last night and the roads were bare and I mean BARE!  No snow, just normal dry road.  But they were due for a storm that the meteorologists had been predicting.  Sure enough we woke up this morning to snow, and when we left Dana’s at about 7:45pm they had about nearly 2 feet of snow!  We drove through tons of snow on the way back to our hotel.  Very pretty, especially once we returned safely to our hotel…learned that Julia is an excellent driver in the snow too!

The kids were excited to wake up and see snow coming down and covering the ground….oh and the snow plows were also a big hit!

Oh and did I mention they have a 5 week old baby boy!  Camden was born on Thanksgiving evening!!  He’s so tiny, still only about 6-1/2 pounds!  We all fought over who got to hold him!

We all had a lot of fun playing in the snow.  The one nice thing is it tires kids out and they go to sleep so much easier!!

Do you have snow at your home?

Home Sweet Home, Sorta!

We survived the 5hours, 18minute car ride from Spokane to Seattle today with four little kids.  It went pretty good, we had a fun snafoo’s (sp?) Aiden got car sick and vomitted all over just outside of Vantage and the Connor had an accident right as we got home.  Other than that everything went well.  The girls & Aiden all napped and the rest of the time they watched DVDs while Julia & I took turns driving and napping.  We were up way to late last night (like 2am lol), so we both were overly exhausted today!

I ended up just coming back to Camano tonight (hense the “sorta”) so we could get the kids into bed at a better hour then having to detour through Duvall.  We got home right about 7pm, got the kids to bed, cleaned out the car and stripped all the carseats to be washed.  I’m currently watching Survivor (go Sandra, your my last person left!) and eating some eggos.  After it’s over, it’ll be bedtime for me too!

Polka Dot Painting & The Melting Pot

We opened and closed the mall today!  We hit the mall about 10am and did some shopping while we waited for Dana to arrive with Kaden, Caleb & Kaylynne to go to Mobius Children’s Museum, which by the way is an awesome one if you are ever in the Spokane area!

After a few hours at Mobius, the girls were beyond tired, but it was to late for them to nap, so I took them for a walk in hopes of them resting and both of them conked out in the stroller!  Apparently both were tired because they both were out cold!

While the girls napped we decided to go paint some pottery.  The boys were really excited to pick their pieces, that turned out to be quite a chore though.  In the end Aiden got a snake and Connor chose a trophy “vase”.  Julia & I each made a piggy bank for the girls.  I made Annika’s pink with brown polka-dots, and Julia made MacKenzie’s blue with brown flowers.

Things were going real swell until right before we were done…the girls woke up, the boys were wandering around and Julia decided to do some “touch-up” on Aiden’s snake.  Needless to say, Aiden was LIVID because Julia had “ruined” his snake.  They tried to wipe it off, but it wouldn’t work so we finally gave the girls Aiden’s snake to paint and Aiden got to start over.

While the girls and Aiden were painting, Connor decided to touch his up….it’s amazing what runny puff-paint can do to a “perfect” piece.  Yes, he was “ruined”.  Julia did a great job of “fixing" it.  But now Connor was angry and thought he could start over, because Aiden did.  Sorry Connor, it doesn’t always work that way, life sucks at times!  We ended up leaving having painted two adorable pigs, a near “perfect” Aiden snake, a very colorful (and BROWN due to paint mixing) and a “ruined” trophy/vase.  Ahhh memories!

Mine & Julia’s Piggies!

Julia had a taste tonight for The Melting Pot for dinner.  We met up with Ashli & Brooklynn, her mom Stacie and grandma Jackie.  I had never been there before so I didn’t quite know what to expect.  It was fun, it was just a long, late adventure.  Took over 2 hours to get through the 4 courses and with four little ones it was hard.  Everyone did really well until we were waiting for the chocolate dessert…which was yummy I might add!

Yum!

We didn’t get back to the hotel until 8:30 tonight, so when we did we all were done!  Time for the kids to go to bed, so Julia and I could just sit down and relax.  I finally called my mom and got a hold of her and talked for awhile, so that was nice.  We’ve played phone tag all week.  Yesterday I went as far as telling her to add me to her calendar at 3:30 when she said she was free…she forgot!  So it was time for us to catch-up!  I love my mommy!

I believe the plan is to head back in the morning to Seattle!  Sad that this vacation is over already.  But at the same time, I think we’re all ready to get back to normalcy and routine!

Hammock Fun!

Ahhh, my favorite time of the day….bedtime/quiet time!  We had another busy day today.  This definitely isn’t a restful vacation, we’re constantly on the go, which I love!

MacKenzie didn’t sleep well last night so I took all the kids back to Manito Park while Julia took a much needed nap.  The kids did really well we even went to Perkins for lunch, where they were very well behaved.  Another patron actually came over to comment on how good the kids were!

This afternoon we went to Dana’s house for some playtime.  On the way their the girls crashed.  Annika often will fall asleep in the car but not MacKenzie, so it was very surprising they both were out!

Don’t you just love how their heads face each other?!

Dana has a hammock in her yard and the girls were freaked out of it at first but I dragged them in anyway.  Annika ended up loving it, MacKenzie just screamed bloody murder until I got her out.  Annika thought it was funny to “sleep” and then “wake up”!  MacKenzie enjoyed pushing us in the hammock

See what I mean :-)

When we got back to the hotel the girls were pretending to be monkeys as they walked through the lobby!  What funny girls!

Okay everyone is now asleep I better go climb in bed and vedge while it’s quiet, mornings come early around here :-)

Another Spokane Park Day!

The weather here has been absolutely beautiful the last two days.  Today it hit 80*, did I mention recently I love heat!??!  This afternoon we met up with Britney, Aiden & Connor’s birthmom and her almost 3 year old, Alex at Monito Park.  We spent another 3+ hours hanging out and playing in the sand and sun!

I think this photo may have also been the moment that her cute barrette came out.  We searched all over for it at the park, and guess what I found in my shirt when I changed into my swimsuit?  Yep….her barrette, lol!

After a day at the park, what did we come home to do??  Have a pool party!  All of Julia’s family came over, including her 94 year old Grandma Mary, Courtney (Annika’s birthmom) and Letty came too!!  We had lots of fun swimming in the pool and then of course a pool party wouldn’t be complete without pizza for dinner!

Did someone say pizza??  Or maybe this could be the new title picture of my blog???  Yep, that’s my big ‘ole mouth!

Bedtime tonight has taken longer.  Kids have been in bed since 7pm.  The girls went right down, but the boys are having trouble falling asleep and now it’s 8:08.  Hopefully the fall asleep soon, I’m getting cold sitting on the floor and I wanna watch some Mariners Baseball!

I think tomorrow’s plan is to head to Dana’s house (Julia’s cousin and Kaden, Caleb and Kaylynne’s mom) in the early afternoon for some playtime.  Hopefully the weather stays nice again tomorrow, over the next day or so it’s supposed to sour and get nasty!  I hope not to quickly!  Stay away icky weather!!

Spokane Park Day!

Today started out early, the kids were up at 6am thanks to the not-so-black curtains.  The sun was seeping in at the crack of dawn!  I took the kids down for breakfast at about 6:30 and let Julia sleep.  Now I know what you are all thinking “that Cori, she’s such a sweet giver”  (haha for those of you who really know me!).  Well I had an alterior motive.  I figured in the next couple days I’d be sooo tired in the monrning that wouldn’t want to get up, and by letting Julia sleep in this morning, I’d get a bye later in the week!

Today we met up with Annika Brooke’s birthfamily, MacKenzie’s birth-grandma Ann along with Julia’s cousin Dana and her three kids, Kaden (6), Caleb (5) and Kaylynne (2).  We spent a good 4 hours at the park and the weather was absolutely beautiful!  Nice and warm with a little breeze!

Okay so you know me, when I have Julia’s camera I go a bit picture crazy!  I told Julia (yes this is kind of morbid-lol) if she and Alec die, since Molly gets the kids (oh darn ;>) all I want is her camera and her bed!  She has the worlds best camera and the worlds comfiest bed!  With that being said….onto the pictures!

After wearing the kids out at the park we headed back to the hotel for some swimming, did I mention the weather was fantastic??!!  Ashli, her new baby girl Brooklynn and her friend Kayla met up with us for some swimming fun!

We got the kids bathed, fed and in bed by 8pm!  They all fell asleep right away, I can’t imagine why??!!  Tomorrow we’re meeting up with the boys’ birthfamily for another picnic!

I better go, my dinner should be here shortly, I’m starving!  Oh…so Julia’s kids may not be “adaptable” (her words, not mine!), but boy when they are asleep they are OUT!  We are watching tv, talking and playing on the laptops all with them right there!  Crazy I tell ya!

Finally Arrived in Spokane

Wow what an adventure my flight turned out to be…well not actually my flight, but the boarding the flight.  Last time I left you when I was talking about the Toys & Togs Totals in my last post (see below for my post earlier this evening), was I was getting ready to go get on my plane.  Yeah…well that was the beginning of the adventure.

I go back to the gate and realize my flight isn’t listed on the board, so I go up and ask the attendent and she reassured me that my flight was the next one to go out.  So I sat down and waited.  I still felt uneasy so an older couple came and sat down next to me and I asked them if they were going on the Horizon flight to Spokane, they were so I felt better.

A few minutes later a gentleman came up to the desk to ask “why was the flight cancelled?”.  Both myself and the couple jumped up and they lady said that “there was a possibility the flight would be cancelled and to go to talk to the Customer Service Desk”.  So off we went immediatly, we got to the desk and the people behind the desk asked why we thought it was cancelled, we said the lady behind the other desk (Cathy by the way) told us.  They told us that it wasn’t cancelled.  So bak we go to wait.

A few minutes later the attendant comes on the intercom to tell us “there is a problem with the plane and maintence was working on it.  Stay close because they hoped to board in 20-25minutes maybe sooner”.  Great, were gonna be late, but I can deal with that, I suppose.

I continue waiting, then I get a text from Alaska Airlines (actually 4 times for some reason) telling me the flight has been cancelled.  I chuckle, show my old couple friend and the man behind me, who I realized was the pilot.  It was a good 5 minutes before the attendent came back on again to tell us “yes the flight has been cancelled, and to go to the Customer Service Desk to rebook”, however, she records the message and then plays it.  I was sitting right in front of her desk so heard her make the recorded announcement before it played so I immedialty jumped up and got inline.

I was one of the lucky ones, it didn’t sound like everyone on the 5:00 Horizon flight was going to make the new now 6:00 Alaska flight.  I was booked and then wandered down to the new gate.  Instead of the little communter plane, we were in a 737, and apparently those are faster because we arrived in 41 minutes opposed to the 59 minutes on the commuter plane.

So here we are now.  All the kids are asleep next  to Julia & I and we are playing on our laptops and watching Law and Order.  I probably should get some sleep because she said morning came at 4:30am this morning….so not gonna be fun!!

Good night all!!
