TV Withdrawl Fading

Last Monday I woke up to a blanket of new fallen snow. Giddy with the excitement of a lazy day ahead of me, I headed back up to lay in bed, watch the snow and catch up on the tv. I turn on the tv and see see the dreaded 771A message box from DirecTv.

After going through the basic steps to fix the problem (resetting everything, unplugging, praying, etc) NADA. I decide that it clearly is something that DirecTv is going to have to fix.

An hour later I hang up the phone with DirecTv, with still no television but that I qualified for expedient service and a DirecTv case manager who was going to call me right back. Two hours later they call and again hang up without tv working. The only plus is I now have a pin number to use and get directly through to someone. Oh and DirecTv would be out on Wednesday to try and fix the problem.

After getting off the phone with my friendly case manager, Ben, the news sets in as does the sheer panic thought of no television for three days! Since clearly I wont survive without television, I do everything I can to fix the problem myself:

- knock the snow off and chizzled the ice off the dish
- unplug everything
- prayed
- googled
- randomly checked to see if the problem had fixed itself
- stared aimlessly at the connections hoping one would jump out at me
- etc.

No luck.

Late afternoon my dad decided he wants to watch tv, so now he joins mw in the state of panic and together we repeat the steps above, including multiple calls back to DirecTv via our special number.

Finally we gave up. My dad believes he discovered whats wrong, something about the wrong power source? I dont know. Whatever the problem was it would be solved Wednesday morning when DirecTv could come out.

Wednesday: Snow – Rescheduled for Thursday

Thursday: Snow & Ice – Resscheduled for MONDAY at the earliest.

Tonight is Saturday night and amazingly, Im no longer having television withdrawals. I only tried to turn the tv on once tonight, opposed to repeating the above steps multiple times like Ive done the last few days! Heck I may actually survive! Heck maybe I dont even need television anymore! Well maybe thats taking it a little far, but you get the idea!

One way I did survive is through my phone and streaming news, shows, etc on my laptop and also using an HDMI cable to watch things on the actual television. Almost like watching television…almost! Technology is AMAZING, how did people survive for centuries without it!

Im down to just one more day until the cable gut comes. However, get this tomorrow were supposed to get a massive windstorm! Seriously, hasnt Seattle suffered enough this past week! So we will see if he makes it.

Hope this also means we arent bumped back to the bottom of the list! On the bright side I believe discovered the algorithm to get through to a person ASAP at DirecTv! Oh and they agreed to prorate the lack of coverage weve had. I guess its not all bad.

Okay off my soapbox! Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Why I Love Being a Social Media Major…..

One of my final papers is choosing a song off of Billboards Top 40, and doing an analysis on it!  I chose Kelly Clarkson’s Mr. Know It All and now I feel like I Know It All about the song.  I don’t know if I’ll ever get it out of my head, I’ve listened to it so many times and watched the music video an equal number too!

Curious why I chose this song?  I watched the first 10 seconds of about 30 different top 40 hits music  videos trying to figure out which one to do my analysis on.  With seconds of this video coming on screen, it jumped out at me.  I knew this was the perfect video to analyze.  Not to easy…but definitely not overly hard!  That’s my kind of paper!!

Want to check out the music video and listen to the song?

Oh and this song sits at #16 this week on the Billboard Hot 100!

Curious what the top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 is today, December 8th?

  1. We Found Love by Rihanna Featuring Calvin Harris
  2. Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO
  3. It Will Rain by Bruno Mars
  4. Moves Like Jagger – by Maroon 5 Featuring Christina Aguilera
  5. Someone Like You by Adele

Sigh.  I guess I’d better get back to writing since it’s due at 11pm, Thursday night!

Did I mention I’m done with school on Tuesday??  Bring on Christmas Break!  Oh and an impromptu trip to Texas with my BFF!

Mary Poppins on Broadway!

Today my family had the amazing opportunity to go see the touring Broadway Mary Poppins!  It is playing in Seattle at the historic Paramount Theater for a couple weeks!  I begged my parents to take us and my dad happily obliged!  We had a wonderful time!

I respected the Paramount’s wishes (okay really my parents threatened to hurt me if I was caught Winking smile) and didn’t take any photographs within the theater.  So you’ll just have to make due with the the photos I took before the show started!

If you get the chance to see it, I highly recommend you go!  The storyline was a little bit different and there were a few new songs, but in true Disney and Broadway style F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!  You must go see it!!!

Extreme Couponing

I know I’m not alone when I admit, I’m really enjoying Extreme Couponing, TLC’s newest hit!  I’m absolutely in awe how they can have over $1,000 of merchandise and pay just a couple dollars.  That is amazing!  The show makes me want to start couponing, just looks fun – not to mention economical!  However, there are a few items that bug me…

  1. How is this different the TLC’s other hit, Hoarders?   You can’t tell me what these people are doing isn’t hoarding?  Most of these people have enough storage to last their family an entire year!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for being prepared … but an entire year?  That seems a bit excessive!
  2. Who needs hundreds of one certain item?  Why not just buy what you need?  Why do you need to buy 1,000 rolls of toilet paper, when you only need a few packs??  One of the last ones I watched, (think it may have been the series premiere) they followed one lady who said she only bought what she needs … not to just buy because it’s so cheap!
  3. The amount of time spent couponing… I guess it’s a similar addiction to my blogging, but 35+ hours a week of cutting, planning, researching and organizing seems just crazy!!  There’s not much time in the day or week to do that (at least for me!)

22035 Deliverables.

22035 Deliverables.

22035 Deliverables.

I spent sometime researching the show and was shocked to see some of the ‘hate’ posts that were written about the show.  Stories about how these people are cheating the system, taking advantage of people, etc.  Last week Emily, of Family & Life in Las Vegas, did an interview with Nathan Engle (interview can be found HERE), of the Extreme Couponers – remember the one who bought the 1,000 boxes of cereal!?  Make sure you hop over to Emily’s and see Nathan’s interview.

Emily’s interview was a nice eye opener to show that Nathan donated the majority of the items he bought, including ALL the cereal.  There was another man who was spent over a $1,000 on merchandise and then turned his purchases into care packages for the troops.  Both of those cases made me feel better …

Now I’m absolutely torn on what to believe (and still am), but I decided that I enjoy the show so I will continue to watch!  Guess that’s all that really matters, right?

What are your thoughts on the show???  Are you a couponer??

Signing Time!

My biggest helper through my American Sign Language class was my 4 year old niece Madison!  Madison has been learning ASL in her preschool and is also a big Signing Time fan!  So between my ASL class, her preschool and Signing Time we quizzed each other on vocabulary that I needed to learn for my tests!  It was a lot of fun being able to do it with Maddie!

For my ASL class, we had to attend different Deaf events and one of the options was to go to a Signing Time concert and meet Rachel herself!  I knew Madison would love it as would Emma, so I brought the girls with me!

Check out Madison signing (and singing) along to the Feelings song!  I think she’s pretty darn cute….and talented!

I didn’t get any video of Emma signing along, but she loves the Please-Thank You-Sorry song.  The people around us were mesmerized by Emma signing along with Rachel!  I wish I had got it on tape!

For those of you who haven’t checked out Signing Time before, now is your chance!  Perfect for Christmas gifts!  Kids of all ages will love it, as will you!

After braving the crowds of Toys R Us at 4:30am, I was ready to take a break and went to see Tangled, the new Disney Princess Movie!  Our whole family went, there were 9 of us in total and we had a blast.  Let me tell you, this movie is definitely worth watching.  Very cute and more importantly HILARIOUS!  My Aunt Sue was laughing so hard, that she was embarressed she was laughing so hard!  Grandma cried from laughing hysterically and Kelly cried from being moved by the love story!  All in an all a greatt movie for all ages!

Hope you all had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!!  Bring on Christmas!!!

Lady Antebellum Concert!

Last night had the awesome opporunity to go see Lady Antebellum in concert at the WAMU Theater in Seattle!!  I went with a high school friend, Caitlyn, who I hadn’t seen in a long time – so it was great to reconnect with her and see a great show!

Waiting for the show to start :)

I Love Cori?!

I took a trip to Kludgy’s Idea Bank today for inspiration for a blog post!  The prompt that immediately hit me was If you could be a fictitious mom (from TV, books, etc), who would you be?  In about 2.2 seconds, I knew what TV mom, I am most like is the one and only….

Why Lucy?  Simple.  Lucy and I are one of a kind.  All we want to do is help other people (and get ourselves noticed and famous at the same time!).  However, whenever we try to do so, we always get into some sort of scuttle along the way!!  Yep, that’s me, all I want to do is help…however it normally doesn’t turn out so picture perfect!  This famous Lucy look…

Yeah…that’s a famous Cori look too! What, Did I Do That??!!

Everything I do is in good intention…if only it always came out that way…
