Halloween Crafting

wpid-Photo-Oct-18-2015-934-PM.jpg

Yesterday Granny and I had a craft day with the girls. This was all Granny Sue's idea and I let her run with it, I just showed up for the fun. Needless to say I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into.

To my surprise, Granny had done her research and came armed with three Halloween/fall crafts, each using pine cones. We would be turning out pine cones into owls, spiders and bats. I was a bit skeptical…

I have to admit once I saw what she had planned I wasn't convinced the endeavor would be successful, but I didn't share my opinion, put on my happy face and dug in. To my surprise the crafts went off with very little problems. I was shocked!

In the end we had spiders that looked like spiders, bats that resembled bats and owls that looked more like Cousin Itt! The owls didn't turn out the best, but were cute anyway.

We hung the finished products over the bar in a fun banner display! I have to give Sue credit, she pulled off a really fun activity!

Mason missed out on the crafts (we confidently did it during nap time!), but he was excited to see the final product and jump in the picture!

Great activity for kids and adults! It was fun to get to use our imagination, lots of glue and create fun ghoulish masterpieces! Bring on fall and Halloween! My only complaint is I didn't take more close up pics of the finished products, there were some real jewels in the mix….scary jewels of course!

Signed by Jermaine Kearse

wpid-Photo-Jul-6-2015-1100-PM.jpg

Last weekend Brandi and I took the little girls to the United Way of King County's Celebrity Softball Tournement hosted by Mariners Hall of Famers Dan Wilson and Jay Buhner. We had all gone together last year so the girls had an idea of what to expect. What we didn't expect was both girls would get their hats signed by Seattle Seahawks', and University of Washington alum, Jermaine Kearse.

We bought great seats just a few rows above the field but because of the heat we decided to move up towards the main concourse and get out of the sun. Maddie wasn't overly fond of the idea because she really wanted to get a signature from one of the players. I finally agreed to go back down toward the dugout to sit in the sun while she tried to get a signature. Any signature.

There was two all-star filled rosters, but only one player from the Seahawks was participating and I never thought we would get him to sign their hats. Maddie was very persistent yelling at different players hoping that one would turn around and sign her hat. Emma joined in after awhile and then a few more girls.

When I saw Kearse pop up out of the dugout and stand right in front of the girls I had two thoughts:

  1. Wow that would be super cool if they got Kearse to sign their hats!
  2. Please turn around and sign their hats so we can get out of the sun!

The four girls quickly realized that each one of them yelling at Kearse individually wasn't working so they decided to try telling together…and what do you know Kearse turned around and motioned to them to hand him what they wanted to have signed.

I don't think I ever moved so fast as to make sure he got both of the girls' hats!

How cool is that signature! I do have to admit I am a tad bit jealous, but there's always next time, right!?

I Spy….

ME!!!!

Okay, and Mason & Emma!

What a fun event Eastside Baby Corner was invited to be a part of!

Hot Air Balloons

wpid-Photo-Mar-5-2015-839-PM.jpg

The rest of the country may be undergoing a horrific winter, but in Seattle spring is here! We've been having record breaking warm temperatures and spending a lot of time outside enjoying the sunshine. So last weekend when I visited the girls we wanted to be outside.

I hadn't been to their school since Emmalee started Kindergarten and they couldn't wait to show off their playground and new tricks they'd learned so off we went to their elementary school to play.

While we were there we noticed a hot air balloon floating towards us. We didn't think anything of it and kept playing, however as we were getting ready to go we realized it was looking like it was going to land in the field behind the school.

Emmalee immediately took off across the playground and toward the balloon, with the rest of us right behind her. We weren't going to witness the first balloon landing of the year (for us!).

(Ignore the graininess of my photos, I took them on my phone as I was chasing after Emma and not really paying attention!)

As we watched the hot air balloon float closer and closer to the ground I reminisced about watching hot air balloons land all summer long when I was growing up.

The neighborhood where I grew up was one block from a park that was frequently the landing point for hot air balloons. I remember the excitement of spotting a hot air balloon as it began its descent down to earth.

Just like Emmalee, I would scream hot air balloon landing and take off out the front door, up the street and down the road toward the park with my parents chasing after me hoping I'd reach the park before it landed.

I always loved watching hot air balloons land and was excited to share the experience with Maddie and Emma!

While I love watching hot air balloons land I'm not sure I would ever want to go up in one! Would you ever ride in a hot air balloon? Or maybe you have, was it worth it? Was it scary?

Regardless I'm ready for sprung and summer to officially be here spring so we can see more hot air balloons!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Oh wait, what’s that date say?  February 16th?!  Hmmm….guess I’m slightly late! The good news is it Week 51 of my 365 day photo challenge from 2014!  It may be mid-February, but I’m still plowing away at getting the photos blogged, but I did complete the challenge!  I *hope* to get my final week of photos up this week and then my rewind post shortly there after!

February 16th also has an important day in my house and this year even more!  Today is my parents 30th Wedding Anniversary!  Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

In the meantime, back to Christmastime!

#CatchTheMoment365; Week 50

post-day351-dec17.png

What do you know, it’s already January 13th (Happy Birthday Brandi).  I started out the year blogging strong, well I blogged on day 2, but nothing since.  That’s kind of how life has gone for me in general.  I figured that once the hustle and bustle of the holidays were over I’d get a break and reprieve before life got crazy again.  Not so much.  2015 came roaring in past 2014.

*Sigh*

With that being said, I’m still behind on last year’s photo challenge.  I am proud to say that I took a photo every day for 365 days, the blogging is what is slightly behind!  This week’s photos are from Week 50 of 2014, December 12 – 18th.  This was my final week of work before getting some time off for the holidays and working from home.

2014 Blog in Review

title_thumb.png

I say this every year, how is it possible that I am sitting down and writing my 2014 Blog in Review?  Has it really been 365 days since I wrote 2013’s?  That just doesn’t seem at all plausible, but alas it is and here I go.

During 2014 my blogging changed a bit, while what I blogged about during 2014 didn’t change the look of it did.  I took on a 365 day photo challenge (and by golly today is day 365 and I will post my final photo) and instead of posting lots of single event posts, most were my weekly photo updates.  In each of these posts I shared the previous week’s seven photos and told the story behind each one.  In one way this was a fun way to recap more of what I did throughout the year, it made my blog look different.  Instead of having lots of completely different blog posts the majority of them had the same title, some variation of Catch The Moment | 365.  That being said my review is also a bit different.  Instead of highlighting one event, for most months I had to pick my favorite week and then try to put a theme together!  In the end I think I did a pretty good job, but still different.  But different is good, right?!

Without further ado, here’s my 2014 in review:

#CatchTheMoment365; Week 49

post-day343-dec9_thumb.png

Whoa, look that’s two posts in two days.  Something must be terribly wrong with me!  No, more like tomorrow is December 31st and I’m three weeks behind on posting my Catch the Moment photos to the blog.  I had hope to get all caught up, but it just never happened.  The good news is the last three weeks won’t be far behind!

Week 49 contained a lot of Christmas from movies, looking at Christmas lights, putting up the tree and helping at a holiday gift program that allowed parents in need to pick out new gifts for the kids.  It was truly a magical week!

Oh, and make sure you stop by tomorrow to see my 2014 in Review post!  Yes, that will make it three days in a row, maybe even one on January 1st!  Look out!
