7th Blogiversary!

wpid-Photo-Jul-5-2015-501-PM.jpg

I have to admit that if TimeHop hadnt reminded me of my blogiversary I would have completely forgot! How is that possible?

width=500

It still blows my mind that Ive been blogging for seven years! Ive come a long way from my first blog post back in 2008 on a long lost platform called MySpace! I never quite got MySpace even with all my friends trying to explain to me how it worked. The only thing I got out of MySpace was my love for blogging.

I posted a whopping 75 posts on MySpace before switching to Blogger that November. I spent almost 2 years with Blogger before making the decision to migrate over to a self-hosted WordPress blog. On my second blogiversary, July 5, 2010, I set a goal for myself to be officially moved over by the end of the summer. I achieved that goal, on September 10, 2010, after 508 posts with Blogger, I debuted the blog I have today.

Over the last seven years my blog hasnt changed much. Sure Ive had many style changes and people have aged (slightly), Ive stayed true to what I wanted it to be when I started, a journal of my life. The good times. The bad times. The happy times. The sad times. The tears. The giggles. 100% me. And thats pretty darn awesome!!

My 7th blogiversary wouldnt be the same without my by the numbers metrics!

7th Blogiversary – July 5, 2015: Over the past year I blogged 65 times or 18% of the year.

2014 Benchmarking vs. 2015 Benchmarking

Average Visits/day: 17 (23 in 2014)
Pages visited per session: 1.54 (1.52 in 2014)
Bounce Rate (bounce rate shows how many people clicked around to different spots on my blog…the lower the % means people are touring my blog and reading different spots. Goal for blogs is 75% or less.) 69.93% (71.69% in 2014)
Average Time Spent on My Blog: 1 minute, 14 seconds (1:17 in 2014)

2014 Blog in Review

title_thumb.png

I say this every year, how is it possible that I am sitting down and writing my 2014 Blog in Review?  Has it really been 365 days since I wrote 2013’s?  That just doesn’t seem at all plausible, but alas it is and here I go.

During 2014 my blogging changed a bit, while what I blogged about during 2014 didn’t change the look of it did.  I took on a 365 day photo challenge (and by golly today is day 365 and I will post my final photo) and instead of posting lots of single event posts, most were my weekly photo updates.  In each of these posts I shared the previous week’s seven photos and told the story behind each one.  In one way this was a fun way to recap more of what I did throughout the year, it made my blog look different.  Instead of having lots of completely different blog posts the majority of them had the same title, some variation of Catch The Moment | 365.  That being said my review is also a bit different.  Instead of highlighting one event, for most months I had to pick my favorite week and then try to put a theme together!  In the end I think I did a pretty good job, but still different.  But different is good, right?!

Without further ado, here’s my 2014 in review:

SIXTH Blogiversary!

CBM-6th-blogiversary_thumb.jpg

Wow, I cannot believe I am writing my SIXTH blogiversary post.

Well technically this was written four days ago on July 1st, because when this goes live I will be vacationing in Las Vegas!!  But you all didn’t need to know that, back to the celebration…..

Sei! (Italian)

Kuusi! (Finnish)

Sita! (Swahili)

Six!

Not only is it my sixth blogiversary, but last years post included an introduction to my newest nephew who would make his debut at the end of the summer.  Little did we know that he would make his grand entrance just 22 days later, about eight weeks before he was due!  The fact that Mason is almost a year old is even crazier than this being my 6th blogiversary!

CBM 6th blogiversary

*6th Blogiversary – July 5, 2014: Over the past year I blogged 81 times or 22% of the year.  That’s not great stats, but better then 2013 where I blogged only 66 times or 18% of the year.

*W*O*W* my “Won’t Chew Be Mine” post went crazy!

I’m slightly addicted to Pinterest. I pin a couple times a day (give or take a hundred!), but I have never had an item I made go *viral*.  However, a few days ago I was scrolling through and came across one of MY posts that had been pinned a crazy amount of times!

Last Valentine’s Day I made these fun Valentine’s to pass out to my volunteers.

valentinesvalentine2

I had pinned it to Pinterest just to see what happened and it quickly became the #1 searched item that brought people to my blog.  Pretty cool!  I was psyched!

In January I started noticing the original pin I posted on Pinterest was getting more and more re-pins.  I *enjoyed* checking it daily to see how many pins it now had.  By early last week I was inching closer to 500 pins.  I was thrilled to see my first pin go “viral” (in my mind!).

But then a couple days before Valentine’s Day I was scrolling through my Pinterest home page and came across my photo.  However, it wasn’t pinned/connected to my blog:

wybm pin

Slightly confused I clicked through to the “Visit” link below the image and to my surprise was brought to this website:

wybm pinit2

where I noticed my pin had been spotlighted on the “Top DIY Projects” site for Valentine’s Day ideas.  Not only had it been spotlighted, but it had been pinned more than 6,000 times!  WOW!  I was absolutely shocked and excited.

I quickly sent my friend a message, the one who had originally pinned this pin, and asked if she had any idea that was my photo.  She responded with she didn’t initially know it was mine, but soon made the connection.  She had found it by doing a Google search for the “Won’t Chew Be Mine” question.  She went on to tell me it actually was the first item that popped up in Google Images!  What?!

I then popped over to the “web” option where I found that my blog post appeared as #5!  Yep, I was pretty excited!

I’m pretty darn proud of myself!  Have you had an item go “viral”Even if it’s just a “Cori” standard viral post? Smile

Catch the Moment | 365: Week 3 [#catchthemoment365]

Last week I struggled with getting all my photos taken.  It was getting to the point that I was afraid I would miss a day and fail my goal!  However, this week was completely different!  I don’t know if it was because I was busier or becoming more aware of photo opportunities or a combination of the two, but I had fewer drives home panicking that I hadn’t taken a photo yet!  After this week I feel a lot more confident in ability to achieve this goal and complete the challenge!

Here’s my third week of 2014 in photos:

post- day17; jan17post - day18; jan18post - day19; jan19post- day20; jan20post - day21; jan21post- day22; jan22post- day23; jan23

Catch the Moment 365

with Mindy at Simply Stavish, Sarah at Nurse Loves Farmer, and Stephanie at Behind the Camera and Dreaming.

How does this work?  Everyday I am posting a new pic to Instagram, Twitter and my personal Facebook page with the hash tags #365DaysofCori and the official challenge hash tag #catchthemoment365.  On Friday’s I will do a recap of the previous week’s photos and *hopefully* give a little more insight into the photos, why I took them and any history behind them.

Happy Friday!

New Years Resolutions

I’m not a New Years resolution kind of girl.  I have no follow through and I accept that about myself! However, a blogging buddy, Mindy at Simply Stavish, shared a statistic on resolutions that really got me thinking…

According to the statistic brain it is estimated that 45% of American’s make resolutions, yet only 8% reach their goals.

When I read that statistic my competitive side came bounding out.  I am ALWAYS ready to compete in anything; any chance I get to beat someone, I’m in.  I joke that my personal hashtag should be #LifesACompetion because I literally turn everything into one!  And the competition that came bounding out at me was how I would NOT fall into the 37% category who quit, give up, forget, blah blah blah because those people aren’t winners of resolutions.  No that wouldn’t be me, I won’t let that happen, I am going to be one of the elite 8% who “wins” their resolution, I will not lose this challenge (Even if my friend Kim Alvarado is CERTAIN I will fail at this..I will show her!)Now I just needed a resolution……

As I wrote my 2013 Blog in Review post and while scouring my blog for special moments of Emmalee’s life I captured and now could share with her, I began to realize all the events that I never blogged about last year.  The new jobs, new baby, my new car, Kelly returning from France, summers hanging out at the beach or at my grandma’s house…the important moments I want to remember.  I was stuck with the excuses “I’m to tired to blog” or “nothing blog worthy happened today” or “nobody reads it so why should I waste the time?”  But now I could kick myself for not documenting them.  Which got me to thinking about why I started my blog 5-1/2 years ago…as a personal account of my life.  No matter how mundane life might have been or seemed it still was my life and I don’t want to forget it.  I want to be able to look back on January 1, 2015 and see my year in one spot.  A snapshot of a year in my life.

For the first time in my life I have made a resolution to
post more blog entries in 2014

But, I am reasonable and know how lazy I was during the last 12 months (I blogged only 48 times ALL YEAR) and seeing how far I’ve fallen after many years averaging 220 posts per year I have a long way to go to get back up to my old habits.  So this resolution is going to happen in baby steps. I am the type of person who thrives on checklists and schedules; I know the only way I could achieve that HUGE resolution was to break it down into more measurable and accountable goals.

I have chosen to participate in two separate “stepping stones” this year to assist me with achieving 8% status success!

———>> #1. I joined the Catch the Moment | 365 year long photo challenge hosted by Mindy at Simply Stavish, Sarah at Nurse Loves Farmer, and Stephanie at Behind the Camera and Dreaming.  Every day in 2014, I will be capturing a moment, in time, in my life with my camera.  I’m hoping to get my real camera (Nikon D5000) out more often this year, but I’m okay with pictures taken on my phone too.  The goal is to capture a shot every day during 2014 and that’s what I am going to commit to and will follow through, through these two means:

  1. I will be posting these photos daily on my Instagram, Twitter and my personal Facebook accounts.  I will also be including the hashtags #365DaysOfCori and the official hashtag of the challenge #catchthemoment365.  So feel free to save those hashtags and follow along!
  2. On Friday’s I will spotlight all the previous weeks’ photos on my blog in one spot.  Ultimately I would love to give a recap of the pictures, but I’m not committing to that, my goal is to get more posts up on my blog and get back into the habit of posting.   Any additional information shared (and I’m sure most of the time there will be tidbits of jewels thrown in, but if so that’s the icing on the cake!)  Remember…baby steps!

———>>#2. For Christmas I got a FitBit and have become extremely obsessed with how many steps I take in a day, miles I walk, calories burned, etc.  If you haven’t heard of the FitBit before, you need to check it out! It is a fun pedometer that you can connect up with your friends and try to “outstep” them in your day to day life.  Remember I am a competitor at heart and this is right up my alley!  I’m already wanting to buy one for my cousin and my boss so the three of us can race.  Competitive is my middle name!  My goal is to wear my FitBit every.single.day for the same 365 days of the Catch the Moment | 365 photo challenge and YOU can help!

  1. Daily my results will post to Twitter so make sure you’re following me to confirm I did it!
  2. On my Monday’s I will blog and share my progress from the previous week and any fun new achievements earned throughout!
  3. Do YOU have a FitBit?  CLICK HERE to add me as a friend or leave a comment below with your email address and I can send you a request.  I’m always looking for new people to out-step!

Okay for my New Years resolution to blog more this year I am committing to blogging at least twice a week during 2014:

  •  Once a week (generally Friday’s) for the Catch the Moment | 365 challenge
  • Once a week (generally Monday’s) for my FitBit check-ins.

I think those are good starts and I am hoping to fill in some other posts here and there along the way!  So here I go!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday!
