What a crazy couple of weeks!

wpid-Photo-Nov-12-2015-750-PM.jpg

I’m tired just thinking about the last couple of weeks. It’s been a complete whilwind that I have been meaning on writing about for a while but am too exhausted (and overwhlemed) from all the fun :) Where to start?

National Diaper Bank Network Annual Conference in Seattle

Last year I had the opportunity to attend and speak at the 3rd annual National Diaper Bank Network Conference in Kansas City! After returning from the conference we learned that the 4th annual one would be held in Seattle! We (Eastside Baby Corner) had been prepping for the arrival of 60+ diaper bankers from across the USA for a year. The week of the conference finally arrived and the entire staff worked our butts off making sure the Hub was shipshape for all our visitors!

The visit to Eastside Baby Corner was a HUGE HIT and the conference was fabulous! The only downside is now both Wanda & I are fighting for a chance to go to the 5th annual conference in Philadelphia!

Eastside Baby Corner 6th Annual Helping Kids Thrive Luncheon

Just one week after the NDBN Conference, Eastside Baby Corner had it’s annual benefit luncheon. So we immediatly went into last minute frenzied luncheon prep. My role here was a lot more minor than the week before so I did my best to stay out of the way :)

The day of the luncheon our goal was to raise $250,000, but we blew that goal out of the water and raised more than $310,000!!! That’s $310,000 that will go towards helping kids in need, get what they need to grow and thrive! A-FREAKING-MAZING!!!

Isabella Rose’s Grand Entrance

Back in August I teased a video of 2-year-old Mason’s opinion on if his mom was having a baby girl or baby boy. I never got around to sharing the results and if he was right or wrong. Well, as you probably guessed by the name Mason was RIGHT and the baby is a girl!

What wasn’t expected was for Isabella to come at 31 weeks, 4 days, more than 8 weeks before her due date. This sweet little baby girl made her debut very early, but in extreme flair, on November 3rd, weighing 3lbs, 11oz. I was *honored* to be there when she was born, well technically out in the hallway, but close enough! I was able to see her with Jaime before she was wisked up to the NICU and then spent time with her that night and the next day.

Bella is doing AMAZINGLY in the NICU and has already surpassed her birth weight, weighing in at 3lbs, 13oz today! Her strength is absolutely mindboggling, she is doing things that a much older baby should be doing and continues to surprise the doctors and nurses with her growth.

She still has a long way to go before she gets to go home (hoping by Christmas), but is a total fighter!!

My biggest complaint is two days after she was born I came down with a horrible cold. I’ve now been fighting it for a week now and am going nuts because I can’t go see her. The NICU has strict rules on visiting when sick, especially now that it’s RSV (Respiratory Syncial Virus) season. I must be symptom free for 24 hours before I can visit. While a simple cold doesn’t seem scary for you or me, to a preemie like Bella it could be deadly. So I’m doing all I can to get my self 100% well before going to see her. I am *hoping* tomorrow I can start my 24 hour ‘symptom free’ test, but am taking it very slow and very seriously.

Back in 2009, I did a huge project and presentation at SPU on RSV (one that I got an A+, top in the biology department and am super proud of!).  I go into very basic detail into what RSV a is in this blog pos [http://corisbigmouth.com/2009/05/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-poster-project/ - sorry not letting me link!], but recommend you do additional research to learn more about this very scary, and most of the time preventable, disease.

(Sorry no pictures of Bella, I haven’t asked for premission yet, for now you’ll just have to imagine :))

So that pretty much sums up my crazy couple of weeks! I’m hoping for a less crazy end of the year, but I’m guessing that’s not going to happen! Bring on the remainder of 2015!!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Mason!

I can’t believe this little guy is TWO!

Happy Happy Birthday to YOU!

Alex is down to 31 days until her college graduation and she is done. DONE. And when I say done I mean it in two different ways: one: she will be graduated and two: shes tired of school and ready for it to be, well, done. I think right now the latter is her biggest complaint.

Who doesnt remember your final quarter/semester of school?! All you have to do is make it to the last day and then youll be done forever….or until you go crazy and decide to go on to higher education – me I havent hit that point yet! The last couple of weeks Alex has really been down in the dumps and with her birthday coming up (today!) my family hatched a plan, one that would surely put a huge smile on her face! My parents had already been planning on sending Kelly to visit Alex in a couple of weeks, and Alex was aware of it but had no idea of the earlier visit.

All weekend long we racked our brains on the best way to do it. Kelly quickly was nominated for the travel role but we had to figure out how to get her there. Mind you we all will be driving the 12 hours in just a couple of weeks for graduation. Do we fly Kelly down? Does she take a friend and drive over? How long will she stay? If we fly her down do we buy her just a one way ticket and have her stay until the graduation? Or just fly her home in a week or two? All these questions were hashed out at the breakfast table Sunday morning.

The final consensus was to fly Kelly one way into Salt Lake City and then either my mom or Jeff will drive over in a week or so and bring her home. However due to the last minute nature of this the only flight option got in at 7pm and we would have to get Kelly up to Rexburg, a couple hour drive. We figured by the time Kelly would make it into Rexburg Alex would be asleep and her birthday over, so just showing up at her door wasnt an option so we hatched plan B which we recorded….her response wasnt quite what we were expecting….

Happy Golden Birthday, Alexandra Nicole!!!!!!!! We love you!

#CatchTheMoment365; Week 50

post-day351-dec17.png

What do you know, it’s already January 13th (Happy Birthday Brandi).  I started out the year blogging strong, well I blogged on day 2, but nothing since.  That’s kind of how life has gone for me in general.  I figured that once the hustle and bustle of the holidays were over I’d get a break and reprieve before life got crazy again.  Not so much.  2015 came roaring in past 2014.

*Sigh*

With that being said, I’m still behind on last year’s photo challenge.  I am proud to say that I took a photo every day for 365 days, the blogging is what is slightly behind!  This week’s photos are from Week 50 of 2014, December 12 – 18th.  This was my final week of work before getting some time off for the holidays and working from home.

2014 Blog in Review

title_thumb.png

I say this every year, how is it possible that I am sitting down and writing my 2014 Blog in Review?  Has it really been 365 days since I wrote 2013’s?  That just doesn’t seem at all plausible, but alas it is and here I go.

During 2014 my blogging changed a bit, while what I blogged about during 2014 didn’t change the look of it did.  I took on a 365 day photo challenge (and by golly today is day 365 and I will post my final photo) and instead of posting lots of single event posts, most were my weekly photo updates.  In each of these posts I shared the previous week’s seven photos and told the story behind each one.  In one way this was a fun way to recap more of what I did throughout the year, it made my blog look different.  Instead of having lots of completely different blog posts the majority of them had the same title, some variation of Catch The Moment | 365.  That being said my review is also a bit different.  Instead of highlighting one event, for most months I had to pick my favorite week and then try to put a theme together!  In the end I think I did a pretty good job, but still different.  But different is good, right?!

Without further ado, here’s my 2014 in review:

Week 34 was the week I have been waiting for all 2014 *drum roll please* MY BIRTHDAY!

Who doesn’t love their birthday week?

Well technically, I have a birthday month, but my birthday week is even cooler!

Other than celebrating my birthday, week 34 was a pretty great week and even better I’m all caught up with the Catch the Moment 365 photo challenge!  It’s a birthday miracle!  Hopefully this trend will continue!

#CatchTheMoment365; Week 31

post-day-215-august3_thumb.png

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind for me and my blogging took a backseat.  My Grandma passed away on August 7th after a long and courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind an amazing legacy and memories.

With the passing of my Grandma, an unexpected trip to Salt Lake City and her funeral, Week 31 never got written or published, actually at this point I’m late with Week 32 as well.  Family is much more important than my blog, but while I am delayed publishing Week 31 and 32, I didn’t miss a day of photos.  Stay tuned over the next couple of days for another catch-up post plus Week 33.

#CatchTheMoment365 Week 30

Week 30.

Did you see that?!

Week 30.

How are we already through 30 weeks of 2014 and this week’s photos bring us to the end of July.  2014 is flying by.

The highlight this week was Mason turned one year old.  You may think it’s crazy that 2014 is flying by, but what’s even crazier is this little cutie is one.  Time definitely flies, and in the case of Mason really needs to slow down!

Mason was definitely the highlight of this week and the rest of the week was, well, pretty boring and uneventful!  I bet you can’t even tell which day(s) I waited until 11pm to take a photo!
