A Day Out with Auntie

I know this title will just put Madison over the edge because technically I’m just a second cousin, but this is my blog and I’ll call myself Auntie if I want :) now back to the reason for the post….

I had Friday off and offered to take Mason out for the day. I’ve taken Mason on outings many times before but normally I just schlep him along with whatever my plans are (running errands, hanging out at my house, etc.) and normally have his sisters with him. This trip however was just the two of us and I thought it would be fun to take him to the Children’s Museum.

He was super excited when I showed up and was ready to go bye-bye right away. I had to distract him with toys at home for awhile because it was to early to leave, but that didn’t last long.

(I don’t know why the photo flipped, but it looks like I’m in the passenger seat! Don’t worry I was still in the driveway when I took this picture!!)

When we first arrived he was pretty shy and clingy, but quickly warmed up and had a great time!

We drove big busses!

He found a girlfriend and together they drove a tractor, very romantic first date!

We dug for fossils and moved LOTS of woodchip bark around!

We crawled through tunnels!

And played with trains!

And then we hit the water area. I purposely left his area for our final stop of the day because I knew he would love it and I turn get soaked! Having been to this museum before and left with soggy kids, I thought ahead and brought him a new outfit! And my theory was correct, he had a blast and was wet form head to toe!

Mason really enjoyed this water feature that would suck plastic balls up a tube and shoot it down into a large container with a raging water tornado.  He did this over, and over, and over.  It was really cool to see him learning cause and effect right in  front of my eyes!  I was pretty proud of him!

Don’t you just love his bossy no when the girl tries to join him!

While I was playing alongside of him I realized that I have never been to a kids place like this without bring lots of kids. I’ve done it many times with twins and triplets, plus friends, and spend the entire time counting heads. I never have had the chance to really play and be one-on-one with a child…it was pretty cool and not to mention fun!

This was a great day and I hope to get to do it again soon!

Flu Shots

Don’t you get your flu shot when you go to the neighborhood carnival?  Mad and I did …. Lol!

We may or may not have been taking a break from selling raffle tickets!  In my defense I made a deal with the pharmacy booth, I’d get my flu shot in exchange for them buying a raffle ticket!  Mad got hers too and we happily sold 2 more tickets!  It’s all for the kids!

It was pretty rainy at Highlands Days today, hence the extremely curly-frizzy hairdo I’m sporting!

Happy rainy Saturday night!

Boy or Girl?

Jaime is expecting baby #4 and tomorrow she will find out if it’s a boy or a girl.  I was over tonight and we asked Mason if the baby was going to be a boy or a girl.  He was extremely opinionated on his guess…

Baby is due January 1, 2016 but knowing how Jaime has delivered earlier each pregnancy I’m guessing she will deliver around Thanksgiving.  Oh and I think she’s having is BOY!

Laptop Updates

There is nothing more annoying than when you see the update your computer alert. I quickly click remind me in 3 hours, finish my work and quickly shut my computer so I don't have to update. That routine continues over and over until my laptop locks me out which is always EXTREMELY untimely (ie: when you have to print one thing before dashing out the door) and EXTREMELY frustrating.

I can't blame all my computer problems on this major Windows update, it's also old. I don't remember when I got it but it's been at least four years because I had it in college. It's time for a new laptop, I'm just too cheap to buy a new one. I mean it still works, most of the time, it's fast-ish, sort of, and holds years of photos that I'm just too lazy to move to an external hard-drive.

Until I give in, or more likely my computer just dies completely, I will be stuck with this…

Now I'm up to 14 / 39 updates, but am going on 35 minutes….at this rate I won't be finishing what I'm working on.

Mad’s Cabin

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to spend the weekend at Madeline’s cabin with several of my coworkers.  Her cabin is right on the water with a stunning view!  I shared a little bit about the trip in a previous post about my sprained ankle, but never got around to sharing photos from the weekend!  Stephanie was smart and thought to bring her camera, so minus one photo (the one of the Yamashita Twins inner tubing) the photos were all taken by her!  She graciously let me use them for this blog post!  *Thanks Stephanie!*

Leading up to going I was *slightly* nervous about going for one reason….having to sleep in a sleeping bag.

I am not a camper.  Never have been, never will be and I knew that this was FAR from camping, but it still involved me sleeping in a sleeping bag which totally grosses me out.  Why?  I don’t know, but I have never liked sleeping in them and was less than excited for that part of the trip!  However, I’m happy to announce I survived.  Shocking I know!  Not only did I survive but had a great time!

The cabin was also a “technology free zone.” No phones.  No laptops.  No iPads.  After my fear of sleeping bags, “technology free zones” are my next least favorite thing!  Yes, for three days I was *mostly* technology free.  It wasn’t easy, but like my fear of sleeping bags, I sucked it up and went with the flow…with a few deep, deep breaths!

We also went on a 50 mile kayak ride.  Okay, so maybe not quite 50 miles, but way farther than I every wanted to go.  When Madeline suggested going on a kayak ride I assumed it would be a nice leisurely trip, and I’m sure it was for the rest of the group but not me…I hated every moment of it.  Poor Stephanie was stuck in the kayak with me complaining the entire time.  Love that girl for being able to put up with me!  I’m sure to the rest of the world our kayak ride was comical, because as we were paddling along Stephanie would say “this is the best day of my life!” while at the same time I was saying “this is the worst day of my life!”

I promise I didn’t spend the entire trip hating life, because it wasn’t, I had a blast!  The highlights for me was inner tubing behind the boat.  I’m at my happiest out on the water and life can’t get much better than inner tubing!  Even after I hurt my ankle, I continued to get back in the tube and go again!  I love tubing!  Wanda even gave water skiing a try after not doing it for 15+ years!  It took her three attempts but she got up and looked fabulous.  (We later learned that all Madeline has ever wanted to do was ski on one ski and was jealous that Wanda could!)

The weekend was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to go back again, even if it does involve sleeping bags and technology free zones!
