I can’t believe I’m writing this blog post from ROME!!!

We left Seattle yesterday morning (March 26th) around 10:30am and finally checked into our hotel about 4:30pm on March 27th.  It was a LONG day of flying.  Oddly enough the nine hour flight was a lot more enjoyable than the two hour one!  The flight from Seattle to Amsterdam was fast.  I watched one entire movie and two halves (couldn’t stay awake!) and then six episodes of The Big Bang Theory.  I read a bit, played some games and tried to nap but that didn’t really happen.  I normally can sleep anywhere at any time, but not today.

Once we landed in Amsterdam we had a two-ish hour layover before boarding our flight to Rome.  However, while we were lined up in the jet way the lights started flicker and then went out.  There was a huge power failure that knocked out power to all of Amsterdam.  Normally it wouldn’t be a problem, but because we were still mechanically attached to the jet way we were stuck. We then spent almost three hours sitting on the plane waiting for the power to be restored.  We sat on the plane LONGER than the actual flight time and to make things more fun we sat right in front of a group of 45 teenagers who spent the entire flight hanging over our seats.  We’ll just say when we finally taxied back from the gate there was a lot of cheering!

By the time we packed up I wasn’t feeling all that great.  I’m prone to severe motion sickness, but this was odd because I got sick when we were sitting stationary at the gate.  I don’t know why, but as we began our journey toward the runway I was trying not to throw up.  Luckily my Dramamine kicked in quickly and the next thing I new we were about to land.

Miraculously all fifteen of our checked pieces of luggage made it to Rome and none of us will have to go naked (though it was getting dicey for Brandi as her big suitcase ended up being one of the last ones off the plan!).

Our hotel looks looks directly at the Basilica and Piazza of Santa Maria.  We wandered around for a bit after arriving, but ended up back at the hotel.  We’re all pretty exhausted and are counting down until our dinner reservations at 6:30pm (in just a couple of minutes!), so we can eat and go to bed!  Tomorrow morning we have a tour of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel before heading to the ship!

Here’s a couple photos of our journey to Rome:

Mason didn’t get to go, but he was pretty mesmerized by all the wheels on the suitcases!

Here are some photos from our quick loop around our hotel:
