Mission to a Million Steps – Week 1

mission to a million steps buttonOn Friday I introduced you to my New Years resolution to blog more in 2014.  One of those ways is by implementing Mission to a Million Steps on my blog.

I previously mentioned that I got a FitBit for Christmas and have basically become obsessed with checking my daily steps and trying to “out-step” my friends!  Initially my goal was to just beat my previous days steps, but having just accomplished my first week, I have discovered that I don’t walk nearly as much on the weekends as I do during the week therefor I was setting my self up for failure.  Remember, I’m all about competition even if it’s against myself!  Knowing that I HATE to lose, I decided that wasn’t the best goal, because I was just setting myself up for failure and in turn [most likely] failing my New Years resolution…I decided to see how many days it takes me to walk 1,000,000 steps!

After completing week one (technically five days since I started on January 1st), I am averaging 5,000 steps a day; if I continue at that pace it should take me 200 days to reach 1 million steps, putting my finish date of July 19th.  Join me as I try to accomplish that goal!

How will Mission to a Million Steps work?  Every Monday I will post the number of steps I stepped from the previous week (Monday-Sunday) on my blog.  I have designed a goal thermometer that I will change each week on my blog to show my progress.  You will also be able to quickly see an update on a permanent thermometer on my sidebar.  I’m excited to see how long it will take me to walk 1,000,000 steps!

Want to try to out-step me and have a FitBit?  Feel free to add me as a friend on FitBitPlease leave me a comment letting me know you are sending me an invite so I know who you are :)   Right now I have 11 friends and am always looking for more (sadly I’m currently in 2nd to last place!)…I have some work to do!
