“That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.”*
I think that pretty much sums up my feelings today. It’s crazy to believe that it has been 9 years since that fateful day in 2001, boy time flies. It still seams like it was yesterday that I was sitting in Seminary at the Byer’s home when Kerstin walked in and announced it (about 6:30am PST, so 9:30am EST, just after it happened). At that moment we still had no idea what had happened, or that it would change America forever.
It was about an hour later, that I sat in 1st period along with the rest of the class glued to the classroom television, where we watched the second plane hit the second tower. Fear, uncertainty and anger ran through me. I don’t remember learning or even having school that day, all I remember is watching the news in every class, standing frozen in time, not sure what was going on – and somehow here I sit 9 years later, still feeling like time is standing still. Wow, the last 9 years just flew by and this day next year we’ll be remembering a decade later, crazy.
God Bless America!!
